Kolbe Catholic College has officially opened its new St Catherine of Bologna Campus in Mickleham, marking a significant milestone for Catholic education in Melbourne’s rapidly expanding northern corridor.
The new campus welcomed its inaugural Year 7 cohort of 156 students at the start of 2026, quickly becoming a beacon for families seeking quality, faith-based education. The school has experienced overwhelming demand, with enrolments at both the established Greenvale campus and the new Mickleham campus soaring to over 700 applications for Year 7 students in 2027.
Principal Nick Scully attributed this enthusiastic response to the community’s desire for a distinctively Catholic educational experience. “The response to our new Mickleham campus has been phenomenal and reflects the trust families place in Kolbe Catholic College,” Mr Scully said. “From the very beginning, our vision has been to create a welcoming, future-focused Catholic school where young people can flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually, and grow to become citizens who contribute to a better world.”
The St Catherine of Bologna campus, located 50km north of Melbourne’s CBD, features 4,200 square metres of contemporary learning spaces designed to foster an engaging and supportive environment. A highlight of the campus is the preservation of a significant 200-year-old tree, which now stands as a defining symbol of the campus’s identity and its deep connection to place.
Grounded in Catholic social teaching, the campus emphasises values-based learning and the holistic development of students as compassionate, service-oriented individuals. “We are proud to offer exceptional facilities, evidence-based teaching, learning and engagement, together with outstanding staff and a nurturing environment where every student is known, supported and encouraged to grow in confidence, character, and faith,” said Mr Scully.
The official opening ceremony, held on Wednesday 27 May, was attended by a distinguished group of guests, including Victorian Deputy Premier and Education Minister Ben Carroll, MACS Executive Director Dr Edward Simons, Victorian Catholic Education Authority CEO Prof. Elizabeth Labone, along with Kolbe Catholic College leadership, students, staff, and parish representatives.
