Child Safe Standards 6

As Kolbe Catholic College continues its “11 Months 11 Standards” campaign to raise awareness within the school community around the safety of children and young people, our focus for this newsletter is around Child Safe Standards 6.

Child Safe Standard 6: People working with children and young people are suitable and supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.

This Standard focuses on ensuring that adults are carefully selected, appropriately trained, and are supported to maintain high standards of child safety.

Kolbe Catholic College aims to meet the requirements of this Standard, by having:

  • Job advertisements, and recruitment processes include child safety requirements.
  • Rigorous screening and verification processes for all staff that are being recruited.
  • Physical checks of current valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) and Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) cards.
  • Child safety policies and the Code of Conduct that all staff and volunteers must attest to and confirm their understanding their responsibilities prior to, and whilst, employed.
  • Professional learning days, staff meetings and various training days dedicated to the upskilling of staff to further support them in understanding their responsibilities for child safety and reporting obligations.
