So far this term, the Careers and Pathways activities have aligned perfectly with National Careers Week, celebrated from 11–17 May. This year’s theme, Connect, Create, Thrive – I Am Becoming…, encourages students to reflect on their strengths, interests and aspirations as they continue to shape their future pathways.
At Kolbe, students have embraced opportunities to connect with universities, industry representatives and pathway providers, while creating exciting possibilities for their futures and thriving through informed decision-making and career exploration.
May has been an incredibly busy and rewarding time in Careers and Pathways. Throughout the term, the team have been meeting with students across a range of year levels to discuss subject selection, post-school pathways, tertiary courses and future career opportunities. These conversations are an important part of helping students make informed decisions about their future. By working closely with students and families, we are able to support pathway choices that align with students’ interests, strengths and aspirations, creating positive outcomes and exciting opportunities beyond Kolbe.
Our Year 12 VCE and VM students recently visited La Trobe University for an engaging campus experience that provided valuable insight into university life. Students participated in a guided campus tour and learned about the many programs and opportunities available, including scholarships, study abroad options and the Aspire Early Admissions Program.
Grace reflected on the experience:
“On Wednesday 6 May, Year 12 VCE/VM students attended an excursion to La Trobe University, Bundoora. We were given a tour of key facilities and areas of the campus, as well as an insight into the various courses and opportunities on offer, such as the Aspire Program, Scholarships and chances to study abroad. The experience allowed students to ask questions, inquire about university life, and gain a deeper understanding of the different pathways available.”
The excursion encouraged students to think more deeply about their future study options and helped build confidence as they prepare for life after secondary school.
Our Year 11 VCE students attended the annual VCE Careers Expo on Friday 1 May, where they explored a wide range of post-school opportunities. Representatives from universities, TAFEs, private training providers and industry employers shared valuable information about courses, prerequisites, career pathways and future employment opportunities. Students engaged enthusiastically with exhibitors, asking thoughtful questions and collected a wide range of resources to assist them in planning for their senior years and beyond.
Year 10 students also had the opportunity to attend the Careers Show at the Melbourne Showgrounds on Friday 15 May. This excursion was particularly timely as students begin preparing for upcoming subject selections and Senior School pathway decisions. The event provided students with access to important information about VCE, VCE VM, tertiary study, apprenticeships, traineeships and future careers.
Students embraced the opportunity to begin exploring the many pathways available to them after Year 10. We look forward to continuing to support students as they explore their interests, set goals and make informed decisions about their future pathways.
