Friday 29 May marks the beginning of our Semester 1 exams, an important time in the school calendar. While this period can bring added pressure for students, it also provides a valuable opportunity to demonstrate their learning and take pride in the progress they have made this semester.

Families play an important role in supporting students during this time. Encouraging strong preparation and organisation can make a significant difference. Students are advised to develop a clear revision schedule, breaking subjects into manageable sections. Displaying this plan at home and establishing a dedicated study space free from distractions such as television, multiple devices, and excess noise can help build effective study routines. Regular, spaced study is far more effective than last-minute cramming and helps strengthen both understanding and confidence.

Students achieve the best outcomes when they actively engage with their learning. Effective strategies include completing practice questions under timed conditions, creating summary notes, mind maps or quizzes, writing their own questions from class notes, explaining concepts to others at home, and testing their knowledge without notes. Using a variety of study approaches helps improve memory and prepares students for exam conditions.

Wellbeing is equally important during this period. Adequate sleep, regular exercise, and healthy routines all support concentration and performance. Encouraging balance, including regular breaks, can help students stay focused and manage stress. Students are also reminded that support is always available through their teachers, Year Level Leaders, and the Wellbeing Team.

Starting the day with a healthy routine, including a good night’s sleep, a balanced breakfast, and arriving early can help students feel focused, calm, and ready to perform at their best. On exam days, Year 10 and 11 students should arrive at least 20 minutes before each exam with the required materials and a positive mindset.

We thank families for their continued support during this important time. Working together helps ensure that students feel confident, prepared, and supported. We wish all Kolbe students every success as they approach their exams with confidence and determination.
