In this first edition of The Spotlight Series for 2026, we get to know Kolbe Catholic College Teacher: Miss Giulia Sepe.
Name:
Giulia Sepe.
What is your role at Kolbe?
Health and Physical Education (HPE) Teacher and Head Coach, Liverpool Football Club International Academy Program.
What does a typical day at Kolbe look like for you?
No two days are ever the same, which is what I love most about working at Kolbe. Like a true Italian, my day always starts with a coffee (or sometimes two) before arriving at school to get organised and plan my lessons.
As a HPE teacher, my day is a great mix of classroom theory and practical lessons outside, keeping things active and engaging for students. Lunchtime involves a quick stop by the Food Tech room for a good feed before getting back into the action.
Fridays are a highlight in the HPE office, it usually means belting out old-school songs…and let’s just say there’s some very interesting singing that goes on
Days are busy, but a lot of fun!
What do you love most about working at Kolbe Catholic College?
What I love most about working at Kolbe is the relationships you build with students and watching their growth each day. Also being part of the HPE team is awesome. Everyone is supportive, always looking out for each other, and the snack game is elite!! There’s always great energy around the school…especially when Carlton wins. And when they don’t, I seem to get reminded about it all day!
What is your favourite food?
Chips for sure.
How do you elevate your students?
I elevate my students by setting high expectations, keeping lessons engaging, and creating an environment where they feel confident to give things a go, even if it doesn’t always go to plan. I aim to challenge them, support them, and celebrate the small wins along the way.
What is your favourite book you have read?
To be honest, I’m not much of a book person, give me a movie any day!
What was your first job?
Working at Chemist Warehouse.
In which Hogwarts House would you be sorted?
To be honest I'm not a big fan of Harry Potter but my friends say I'd be sorted into Slytherin...whatever that means.
What is one of your hidden talents?
I'd like to think I am a good table tennis player.
What is your favourite travel destination?
Has to be Italy (although I haven't been before).
What song do you know all the lyrics to?
Olivia Dean - Talk to Me (shoutout to the HPE team for that).
If you had a boat, what would you name it?
Endless Summer.
Who inspires you?
Coming from an Italian background my nonna (grandmother) is someone who inspires me. Although she is always telling me off for not eating enough, she's caring, kind, and one of the strongest person I know. If I can be half as resilient as her, and master one of her recipes, I’ll be doing pretty well!
How do you think people would describe you?
I’d like to think people would describe me as pretty bubbly, always up for a chat and a good laugh and always happy to lend a hand or a listening ear when needed.
What do you do during your free time?
In my free time I like to go for runs around my area, although after doing two ACL injuries, it’s more of a light jog followed by a long time sitting down.
I also love going to the footy with my family supporting Carlton, which has really helped me build resilience, patience, and the ability to say “there’s always next week”.
I’m also a bit of a foodie, so I enjoy trying different restaurants.
If you could teach any subject that doesn't exist, what would it be?
Domestication Skills! Those who know me would agree this isn’t exactly my strongest area, so it would be a win-win. I’d be learning right alongside the students! The subject would cover essential life lessons, like how to cook something other than pasta or how to keep a plant alive for more than a week.
