Year 11 student Oliver F is set to set out on another exciting journey overseas, having once again earned selection to represent Australia at the internationally renowned MIC Tournament in Spain for 2026. This marks Oliver’s second consecutive year competing in the tournament, following his performance at last year’s event and his impressive form throughout the domestic season.
Since returning from the 2025 MIC Tournament, he has intensified his training regimen, focusing on advanced technical drills, tactical awareness and leadership on and off the field. Balancing schoolwork and rigorous for-day-a-week training sessions, Oliver credit his coaches at Racing Madrid Melbourne and mentors from last year’s academy for helping him elevate his game.
Reflecting on his experience in 2025, Oliver shared, “Last year’s tournament was a turning point for me. Competing against some of the best youth teams in the world taught me so much about discipline and perseverance. I’m proud to have another opportunity to represent my country.”
The MIC Tournament, held annually in Costa Brava, attracts elite clubs and national teams including FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United. Oliver will again compete in the highly competitive U18 category, with over 50 teams contending for top honours. His personal goals this year include improving his goal tally, building on his experience, and taking on a greater leadership role within the squad.
Preparation for this year’s event has been particularly focused on mental and physical resilience. Oliver has participated in specialised strength and conditioning programs, agility training, and match analysis sessions. Recovery and injury prevention have also been prioritised, with regular physiotherapy and pool recovery sessions forming an integral part of his schedule.
“Representing Australia on such a big stage is a huge honour,” Oliver said. “I hope to inspire younger players at our club and bring back new skills and knowledge to share with my teammates.”
The 2026 MIC Tournament will run from 31 March to 5 April, with matches played across the Costa Brava region. Players will again stay in the sports village, supporting independence and friendship among the squad. As excitement builds, Oliver looks forward to donning the national colours and competing against international powerhouses. “I can’t wait to walk out onto the pitch and give my all for the team.”
Oliver is grateful for the encouragement he has received from family and the Kolbe community, both on and off the field, and now turns his attention to Spain, thrilled for the opportunity to test himself once again against some of the world’s best young footballers.
