As Kolbe Catholic College continues its “11 Months 11 Standards” campaign to raise awareness within the school community around the safety of children and young people, our focus for this newsletter is around Child Safe Standards 3 and 4.
Child Safe Standard 3: Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
This Standard focuses on empowering children and young people by ensuring they are informed, respected, and actively involved in decisions that affect them. This participation helps build a school culture that is safe for them and values their voice.
Kolbe Catholic College aims to meet the requirements of this Standard, by having:
All our child safety and wellbeing policies and procedures publicly accessible to the school community.
All staff and volunteers complete mandatory child safety training every year.
Child-friendly versions of how students can raise a complaint or a concern.
Student Senate act as a voice of the students to the College Leadership Team for all child safety and wellbeing matters.
Visual aids supporting child safety and wellbeing on display in all high traffic areas of the school.
Students presenting at whole-school assemblies.
Child Safe Standard 4: Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
This Standard focuses on partnering with families, carers and community members, to help create a consistent network of safety and support around every student.
Kolbe Catholic College aims to meet the requirements of this Standard, by having:
All our child safety and wellbeing policies and procedures publicly accessible to the school community.
School Advisory Council involvement in child safety discussions and all Council meetings having a child safety standing agenda item.
Child safety articles, reminders and updates regularly incorporated into school newsletters.
School community notified of any child safety policies and procedures that have been updated or implemented.
Opportunities for parents, carers and the broader school community to contribute suggestions of strengthening child safety practices within the school.
