“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour for he has looked with favour on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me and holy is his Name.” Luke 1:46–49

Most glorious and Ever-Virgin Mary, I rejoice today with you and with the whole Church for the most glorious things that God has done for you. You are beauty beyond beauty, Immaculate in every way, and worthy of our deepest love. As you now share body and soul in the glories of Heaven, please pray for me and for all your dear children on earth. Cover us with your mantle of love and pour forth the mercy of God upon us always.

Mother Mary, assumed into Heaven,
Pray for us.

St. Maximilian Kolbe,
Pray for us.

Amen.

Happy Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary!

On this day, we have the privilege of reflecting on the miraculous assumption of our Mother, the day after we have celebrated the Feast of St Maximilian Kolbe. There is some symmetry to these consecutive feasts, notably because of St Maximilian Maria Kolbe, a man whose devotion to Mary was boundless.

Kolbe Catholic College’s 2025 Feast Day was a sensational day, among the most memorable in recent years. The day was filled with celebration, featuring rides and showcasing the many gifted students and staff in Kolbe’s Got Talent. The highlight, however, was the Feast Day Mass that opened the festivities, a truly special and meaningful occasion.

Fr Samuel Pearson’s homily, connecting the life and sacrifice of St Maximilian Kolbe to our Saviour, Jesus Christ, in a relatable way, was incredibly profound.

Our incredible Kolbe choir’s contributions also need to be recognised, adding reverence and sacredness to the mass.

After Mass; staff, students and special guests participated in a Walk for Awareness of Domestic Violence. The sea of purple t-shirts was an incredible sight; however, it acknowledged a deeper purpose. This was our community making a visible statement about a social issue in our society. I commend the students for their involvement and thank the staff for their assistance in making this social justice event successful.

Preparations are well underway for the Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF), which will gather young Catholics from across Australia in Melbourne this December. Recently, some of our students attended the ‘ACYF Kick Off Event’ at ACU, a chance to sample the festival’s spirit and connect with students from other Catholic schools. We eagerly anticipate the next event as our journey towards December continues.

Finally, as part of our Jubilee Year celebrations, we recently offered students another opportunity to participate in the Sacrament of Confession. It was inspiring to see our faith-filled community in action, with students willingly giving up their lunchtime to spend time with God.

Peace and Blessings.
