Asthma, Hay Fever and Administering Medication

Now that Spring has officially sprung, this means that the hay fever and asthma thunderstorm seasons are almost upon us. One in Four Australians are affected by asthma or hay fever, with its peaks being reached between 1 October through to 31 December of each year.

If your child is prone to suffering from hay fever or asthma, this is a timely reminder to review all medical plans to get through the season.

What is required for my child if they suffer from asthma, hay fever or other allergies?

  • If your child suffers from asthma, please ensure that their asthma action plan is up to date and is with the College first aid team, along with their Ventolin.
  • If your child suffers from hay fever or other allergies, it is recommended that they commence taking their antihistamine medication early.
  • Important reminder: As per the Administration of Medication Policy, if your child requires to be administered any form of medication on school site or during an offsite school activity, including common over-the-counter medications such as antihistamines and paracetamol, a Medical Authority Form must be completed. The form be reviewed and signed by a registered health/medical practitioner and returned to the college first aid team.

For more information in regard to the administration of medication or medical action plans, please contact the college first aid team.

Student Vehicle Use

As the year progresses, more of our Year 12 students are qualifying for their driver’s license. If students are choosing to drive to school in their own vehicles, please ensure that parents/cares/guardians and students familiarise themselves with the college’s Student Vehicle Policy, which outlines the responsibilities of the students and the use of their vehicles. Please note, that due to limited spacing, students cannot park their vehicles on the college grounds.

For more information, please contact Mr Cameron Whitford, Deputy Principal – Students.
