God of Infinite Mercy,

We come to You with contrite hearts,
Deeply sorry for the intergenerational suffering
In our history, that is still very much felt today.
May our sorry resonate across the land and waterways
Into all our heads, hearts and hands,
Guiding our walk towards healing and reconciliation.
May our sorry keep the hurts of the past fresh in our mind,
Inspiring our hope for a better future and flourishing for all.
May our sorry be heard by the generations to come,
Underpinning our determination to ensure
That these injustices will never happen again.

Amen.

Prayed as a College together on National Sorry Day, 26 May 2025.

Habemus Papem! We have a Pope!

Term 2, 2025 began with the unfortunate news of the passing of Pope Francis. This was soon followed by the announcement of Pope Leo XIV being elected his successor. All of this occurred on the back of Easter. A whirlwind start to a term, whilst also making this Jubilee Year even more memorable. As a college, we offered a liturgy for the passing of Pope Francis, as well as enabling students the opportunity to offer their own prayers.

During Term 2, the College also acknowledged significant occasions, the first of which was Anzac Day. Our College Captains, Ethan and Chelsea attended the 10:00am Anzac Day Ceremony in Craigieburn, laying a wreath on behalf of Kolbe Catholic College. As a college, we paused on the 24 April, offering our prayers as a community, reflecting on this important historical event. Additionally, National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week occurs during May, an annual event to recognise the trauma that exists within the Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Prayer during PC, as well as other PC activities enable the students to understand a little about this element of Australia’s past.

Since the beginning of Term 2, three of our Houses have gathered together for their Feast Day Mass celebrations; Mackillop, Chisholm and Frassati. Thanks to Father Dishan and Father Samuel for presiding over these masses for us. I’d also like to acknowledge all the students who contributed to these sacred occasions by reading or offering the gifts. These conclude our Feast Masses for 2025, our next significant mass will be as part of Kolbe Feast Day celebrations on 14 August 14.

Before Term 2 concludes, our Year 10s will gather together for Reflection Day, led by Father Rob Galea and members of his band. Father Rob’s testimony is an incredible story, whilst also sharing his musical talents with the students. This day provides a fantastic opportunity to reflect on our own faith journeys whilst also being an entertaining and engaging experience.

Finally, as we celebrate this Jubilee Year, we have offered students the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The first session was very well attended, so we have further sessions scheduled this term and Term 3.

Peace and Blessings.
