Our Year 10 Aspire students have consistently demonstrated an impressive commitment to gaining practical experiences that contribute to their personal growth and career aspirations. Among them is Eleora Oraha from Year 10A, whose journey into the professional realm serves as a testament to her remarkable persistence and determination. Securing a work placement at the Greenvale Animal Hospital at such a young age is no small feat, and it speaks volumes about her dedication and passion for animal care.
In the following reflection, Eleora shares her insights and experiences from this transformative opportunity, highlighting the lessons learned and the impact it has had on her aspirations for the future.
I’ve always thought and dreamed of working with animals, feeling a deep connection to their wellbeing and care, however my journey to find my experience was going to be a hard goal to achieve. I encountered a series of rejections as I called around 15 different clinics for work experience, each resulting in a disappointing “no”. But despite being told I was too young or I couldn't secure a position, I still managed to remain positive and determined knowing that my passion for animals drove me to keep trying, and my belief that it will eventually sooner or later pay off. Each rejection only grew my determination to find the right opportunity, and I refused to give up.
Finally, after getting told “no” over and over again, I found a veterinary clinic willing to take me after seeing how passionate and persistent I was. I am incredibly grateful for the valuable work experience I've gained, and I'm now more determined than ever to continue growing and pursuing my passion for working with animals. Never giving up was worth it because each challenge only strengthened my resolve and brought me closer to accomplishing my goals.
