Last year, a simple choir visit blossomed into something genuinely special, a partnership between Kolbe Catholic College and the residents of Levande Highlands Retirement Village that has continued to grow in friendship and spirit. What began as a tour to share music and happiness soon became a beautiful collaboration, uniting generations in song and friendship.

Building from the uplifting surprise performance at Kolbe’s Got Talent Performance last year, where Levande residents joined the Choir onstage to a heartwarming standing ovation, the bond between the Kolbe and Levande communities has only deepened. The mutual love of music has created a bridge between students and residents, allowing each person’s story to shine.

This year, the connection took on a new dimension. The Levande residents were invited for a special lunch and sing-along with Kolbe students and Student Leaders. The room was filled with smiles as everyone gathered around tables, sharing food, stories and plenty of conversation. But the day was more than just music, it was about community.

After lunch, the magic began. Residents and students sat side by side, belting out familiar tunes and learning new songs together. Challenging music games had everyone laughing, guessing and singing along in their seats.

For our students, these moments are lessons in compassion, joy and the importance of reaching out. For the Levande residents, they are a source of renewed spirit and belonging. The mutual respect and genuine affection are noticeable in every shared song and exchanged smile.

None of this would be possible without the enthusiasm of the Levande Highlands community and the tireless efforts of Philipa, the Lifestyle & Wellbeing Coordinator at Levande, Laura Roso, Director of Performing Arts and Robyn Herrera, Director of Marketing and Enrolments at Kolbe Catholic College. Working together, they have created a partnership that enriches both communities and serves as an example of the magic that happens when people come together.

As we look forward to more rehearsals, one thing is clear: the music is just the beginning. Friendships are flourishing, memories are being made and the spirit of community at Kolbe is stronger than ever. No matter our age, the joy of music reminds us that we all have something beautiful to share and together, we can create moments to last a lifetime.
