Term one has been an amazing term full of exciting student activities with a new daily structure setting the tone for students to be ready to learn in their many classes. The College has been a buzz of with the anticipation of a new year with the campus having the highest amount of enrolment ever in its history. From the beginning I congratulate most students who are wearing the summer uniform correctly, including their blazer to and from school.

While students have been focussing on their studies the wellbeing team, including Year Level Leaders and Director of Students, have created a series of Wellbeing presentations to different year levels on a range of topics. The Year 11 students had a mental health presentation, Year 12 students focussed on their own wellbeing including stress management. The Year 7’s had the Reach foundation present on friendships and getting along with Year 8 students extending their skill work on building relationships and resilience. Next term there are more presentation and workshops for year 9 and 10 students plus more skill building for year 12’s.

Harmony Day was celebrated on 21 March and for the first time in College’s history the Year 7 and 12 students participated in a Colour Run. This was the finale to a spectacular day celebrating the theme of “Everybody Belongs’. Guest Presenter Scott Darlow spoke to the students about Indigenous history and through songs and stories spoke of his life as an Aboriginal man growing up in Australia. The staff v students soccer match was a hit at lunchtime with the staff prevailing 3-0. A big congratulation to the College Captain and Vice Captains and College Wellbeing Captains for making the day a success.

The Social and Emotional Learning program that used to be delivered in Pastoral Care time is now a dedicated once per week lesson that still focusses on Goal setting, resilience, empathy, and other key skills. This is now delivered through the digital platform Wellio and is a key component to the Wellbeing team assist with students’ Readiness to Learn. A key concept that will be built in through a new Pedagogical Framework to be launched later in the year.

Term two requires students to wear their winter uniform, which can be found on the uniform guide document available on the website. Key features of the guide require all students to always wear their blazer to and from school with the College tie. Female students can wear either the pants or College skirt, with their hair tied back. Males must be clean shaven unless an approved medical has been submitted.

I wish all families and restful and spiritual Easter break and look forward to another exciting term at Kolbe Catholic College.
