Last week, festive spirit filled Levande Highlands Retirement Village as Kolbe Catholic College and Levande came together for a special Christmas in July event. Born from discussions at a previous gathering, this collaboration was a wonderful opportunity for both communities to connect and celebrate.
Dressed festively with a touch of Christmas flair (think Santa hats and glittering tinsel) the staff and students brought smiles to residents' faces as they performed a selection of beloved Christmas tunes. Lively renditions of classics such as “Jingle Bells,” “Let it Snow,” and “Santa Claus is coming” created a joyful atmosphere and encouraged singalongs from the audience.
More than just a musical performance, this was an opportunity for generations to connect, share stories, and build new friendships. Residents expressed their delight at the students’ visit, noting how much they appreciated the youthful energy and the sense of belonging.
Community collaborations such as our Christmas in July celebration highlight the value of intergenerational engagement. Experiences like these create lasting memories for residents and students alike and a true sense of community.
Even after the last song ended, you could feel the warmth in the room. Residents and students were still chatting, sharing stories, and enjoying each other’s company, a simple reminder of how much these moments mean to everyone involved.
