Tall fences have been erected and, though we can see through them, they are quickly becoming part of our day-to-day landscape. Surveyors are measuring the distance between things, marking out the places where walls will soon stand. The buzz of construction has meant that many students have been peering across the fence to watch the progress unfold.
Earlier in the year, we were fortunate to have architect Ms Katrina Owers speak with our students about the two new buildings. In Term 2, Katrina shared how the designs draw upon our Franciscan charism, including references to our patron, St Clare of Bologna. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to begin to understand not only what these new spaces will look like, but also the ideas and values that have shaped their design.
Across Term 3, I have also had the pleasure of attending site meetings and watching the Performing Arts Building and Learning Neighbourhood begin to take shape.
The Performing Arts Building has been designed with an outdoor stage and instrumental rooms, creating opportunities for both learning and performance. Its exterior has been designed to undulate like a stage curtain, reflecting the purpose of the building itself. It will also provide a space for community events, giving us another place to gather, perform and celebrate together in the years ahead.
The new Learning Neighbourhood will provide additional classrooms and has been designed with flexibility in mind. Alongside spaces for individual learning, there will be larger areas where students can work and gather. These spaces will allow us to be flexible in our use of space without sacrificing the quiet learning spaces, we know are central to great Teaching & Learning.

We look forward to continuing to share updates as the build progresses. For our students, there is something particularly exciting about watching these spaces emerge around them. What is currently behind fences and construction barriers will, in time, become classrooms, performance spaces and places to gather.
As we begin preparing to welcome the next cohort of students in 2027, it is wonderful to see another part of the vision for St Catherine Campus becoming a reality.
