We are excited to celebrate the recent achievements of seven outstanding students from Kolbe Catholic College who have successfully graduated from the University Step Up Program at the Australian Catholic University (ACU). This innovative program is specifically designed for Year 11 and Year 12 students, allowing them to complete two first-year university subjects during their Year 11 winter holidays and Year 12 summer holidays.
By participating in this program, our students not only gained a head start on their university education but also developed invaluable study skills and explored potential future degrees. This initiative has empowered them to transition smoothly into higher education, equipping them with essential skills that will serve them throughout their academic journeys.
One of the most significant advantages of the University Step Up Program is the opportunity for students to become eligible for an early offer to a relevant course at ACU upon successfully completing the two units. This early admission path is a remarkable benefit, giving our graduates a competitive edge as they move forward in their educational pursuits.
We are proud to highlight Maddison B, one of the graduates who participated in the program with a focus on Sport and Exercise Science. Reflecting on her experiences, Maddison shared the key skills she developed and how the program shaped her confidence and career aspirations.
"Participating in the University Step Up Program has equipped me with several vital skills that will benefit my future studies in Sport and Exercise Science," Maddison said. "I honed my research and critical thinking abilities, which are crucial for understanding advanced scientific concepts and analysing data. Additionally, I improved my time management and study skills, allowing me to effectively plan and organise my workload."
Maddison also expressed how the program boosted her confidence, saying, "Completing the program really enhanced my self-assurance. I enjoyed delving into complex topics like biomechanics, physiology, and sports psychology, which has prepared me for my future studies."
Most importantly, Maddison noted the program’s impact on her career path. “It solidified my interest in Sport and Exercise Science. I would encourage others to consider this program; it’s incredibly rewarding and sets you up for a successful future at university.”
